Probiotics

What are  Probiotics?

Probiotics are bacterial cultures which have a boosting effect on the levels of good bacteria in our bodies.

What is Lactobacillus GG (LGG)?

Lactobacillus GG (LGG) is a “good” bacteria added exclusively to Vaalia products because of the special health benefits it provides.  “Lactobacillus” is the family name for the bacteria.  The “GG” stands for Gorbach and Goldin – the two professors who discovered this particular strain of bacteria.

LGG is the most studied and scientifically researched probiotic in the world today.   LGG has been proven to have benefits in keeping the digestive system healthy.  The presence of LGG may also help to stimulate your body’s resistance to, or recovery from, internal infection.

What does c.f.u mean to do with the proboitics (Acidophilus & Bifidus)?

Probiotic bacteria like Acidophilus and Bifidus have been shown to have potential benefits to humans in helping to maintain inner digestive health.  The stomach and the intestines are a very acidic environment which is what helps to kill off  “bad bugs” entering our bodies, but this environment can also be harsh to the “good bugs”.  For you to benefit from consuming yoghurt or any other product which contains live probiotic bacteria it is imperative that they are alive in sufficient numbers to survive the perilous acid journey through the gut.  It is commonly accepted by scientists that a MINIMUM of 1 million colony forming units (c.f.u.) of the good bacterial strains must be in each gram of product to ensure they are able to reach the areas of the gut where they may be of benefit.

Parmalat probiotic yoghurts ALL contain a MINIMUM of 100million c.f.u of each bacteria per 100g of yoghurt so you can feel confident that you have the opportunity to receive the benefits of these bacteria when you eat Parmalat yoghurts.

If you’re unsure, check the label of the yoghurt and if it doesn’t clearly state the c.f.u. on the Nutritional panel then you have to ask yourself whether there will enough good bugs to offer any potential benefit.
